Key man: Scott
Parker
Has often succeeded in eclipsing even the impressive Mark
Kinsella in Alan Curbishley’s central midfield. An England
Under-21 international, Parker was also capped at schoolboy
and youth level. Tough in the tackle and blessed with an
excellent passing range and fine vision, he is very much the
complete modern midfielder. A favourite with Valley
regulars, he learnt a lot on loan at Norwich two seasons ago
Coach: Alan
Curbishley
The Valley boss is tipped as a future England manager, and
it’s easy to see why. One of the few Premiership coaches
to have played the cheaper end of the transfer market —
both domestically and overseas — and consistently
unearthed authentic bargains, Curbishley has also nurtured a
healthy crop of home-grown players. His seven years of
loyal, patient squad-building at the Valley have proved that
it is possible to prosper at the highest level while playing
attractive technically-pleasing football and living within
relatively modest means

New boy: Gary Rowett
An unshowy but uncompromising and highly reliable
right back. He was acquired from Leicester for £2.5m.
Curbishley may encourage a strong and athletic player like
Rowett to be a little more adventurous going forward
Money talk
Top earners Powell £28,000, Rowett £28,000,
Kinsella £22,000
Total wage bill
£16.67m
A prudent approach means that wages are only 58.8%
of the club's turnover (£28.32m). The wage bill is the 15th
highest in the Premiership, the turnover the 13th highest
